Warranty policy
Last updated and effective: October 9, 2026
The warranty term on the listing applies
Every listing shows its own warranty term, for example “90 DAYS WARRANTY (AFTER RECEIVING ITEM)”. The warranty starts on the day you receive the item. If a listing shows a longer term than the terms in Section 1, the listing applies. Items listed SOLD AS IS have no warranty.
Section 1 – Warranty terms by item
| Item | Warranty |
|---|---|
| Used replacement engines | 90 days |
| Used performance engines (VTEC, turbo) | 30 days |
| Used replacement transmissions | 90 days |
| Brand-new engines (KDM) | 6 months |
| Rotary engines (Mazda RX-7 13BT, 13BTT, 20B) | No warranty |
| Used performance transmissions | No warranty |
| Electrical and electronic parts | No warranty |
| Items listed SOLD AS IS (for example front clips, body parts and accessories) | No warranty |
Head gaskets are warranted for 30 days only, whatever the engine term above.
Section 2 – What is covered
Used engines
JDM Philly warrants that every used engine will be in serviceable condition, having regard to the nature of used engines, for the term in Section 1.
- All internal engine parts, including pistons, piston rings, piston pins, crankshaft and main bearings, connecting rods and rod bearings, camshaft and camshaft bearings, timing chain and timing gears, intake and exhaust valves, valve springs, seals, guides, oil pump, push rods, rocker arms and shafts. The engine block, cylinder walls and cylinder head are also warranted to be free of cracks or distortion.
- JDM Philly may repair the engine with rebuilt or serviceable used parts, or exchange it, at its own discretion.
Used replacement transmissions
The warranty covers failure of the transmission’s internal mechanical parts under normal use for the term in Section 1. External parts, sensors, wiring, mounts, the torque converter and clutch assemblies are not covered unless the listing says they are.
Brand-new engines
The warranty covers defects in materials or workmanship of the engine for 6 months after you receive it. The installation and maintenance requirements in Section 4 and the exclusions in Section 3 apply.
Section 3 – What is not covered
Parts attached to an engine
External parts attached to an engine are not covered by the engine warranty, for example intake and exhaust manifolds, carburetors, distributor, starter, emission control devices, flywheel, clutch and pressure plate, water pump, thermostat, belts, hoses, oil pan, valve cover, sensors, electronic parts (wires, computers, injectors and similar), drive shafts, engine mounts and half shafts, and any transmission attached to the engine. A transmission bought as its own listing has its own term in Section 1.
This limited warranty also does not cover
- The cost of labor required to remove and install a repaired or exchanged engine in the vehicle
- Damage caused by abuse, neglect, accident or natural perils
- Loss caused by the engine being improperly installed
- Towing charges, freight or delivery charges
- Loss caused by overheating, including oil leaks, a blown head gasket or any other engine damage due to poor water circulation, a clogged radiator, a stuck thermostat or a faulty water pump
- Decrease in performance of any covered part due to normal wear and tear (unless an actual breakdown occurs)
- Loss caused by any modification or use of the engine for which it was not originally designed, for example adding a turbo, supercharger, nitrous system or aftermarket tuned ECU, or any forced induction the engine was not designed for from the factory
- Use of the engine for competitive driving or racing
- Loss caused by the failure of a part that is not covered by this limited warranty
- Tune-ups and adjustments, filters, hoses, belts, lubricants, coolants, emission control devices, spark plugs and other tune-up parts
- Deterioration or pre-ignition damage
- Repairs performed without prior authorization from JDM Philly
- Loss caused by a defective timing belt (a brand-new timing belt should be installed)
Section 4 – Installation and maintenance requirements
Failure to follow these requirements voids the warranty.
- The engine must be installed, maintained or adjusted by a certified mechanic.
- Set the ignition timing to the manufacturer’s specification.
- Change the oil after 3,000 miles.
- Re-torque the cylinder head bolts to the manufacturer’s specification.
- Check the cooling system and service it if it is rusted or contaminated with oil, and replace the coolant.
- Replace the timing belt, oil filter, water pump and spark plugs.
Section 5 – How to make a warranty claim
- Contact us as soon as you find a problem, with your order number. Keep your invoice, delivery photos and any mechanic’s records.
- The customer pays the freight to return a defective engine, and no replacement engine is sent until our staff have inspected and verified the returned engine.
- If the engine is defective, JDM Philly refunds the shipping charges and ships out a replacement engine, or repairs the engine at its discretion. If the engine is not defective, the customer pays all shipping charges, including shipping the engine back.
- The engine must be returned in the same condition it was sent. Missing parts are charged to the customer.
- If the wrong or defective engine is not returned to JDM Philly within 60 days after a replacement engine is sent, the customer is charged the full amount of the engine plus all freight charges.
Section 6 – Limits of this warranty
- Repairs or exchanges do not extend this limited warranty beyond the term in Section 1.
- This limited warranty is in place of all other express warranties of JDM Philly. Any implied warranty is limited to the duration of this limited warranty. JDM Philly does not authorize any person to assume any other obligation or liability on its behalf.
- JDM Philly is not responsible for incidental or consequential damages arising from loss of use, loss of time, inconvenience, commercial loss or any other consequential damage or loss.
- Some states do not allow limits on implied warranties or the exclusion of incidental or consequential damages. Where that is the case, these limits apply only as far as the law allows. Nothing in this policy limits any right you have under law that cannot be waived.
Section 7 – Emissions, long blocks and attached parts
Engines complete with accessories may not comply with the emission control laws of the state where they are sold or used. State and federal authorities require that you change over the emission devices from your old engine to the engine you are installing. The add-on parts on an engine sold by JDM Philly are left attached for testing purposes only, for your convenience, and are free of charge. Unless the listing states otherwise, the purchase price covers the long block only (the cylinder head and short block). See our Disclaimer for more.
Section 8 – Condition of used engines
Used engines have been in use for 20,000 to 60,000 miles (depending on the year of manufacture) and are not brand new. There may be small scratches on the engine because it is used. There may also be fragile plastic, metal or rubber parts that could bend or break during shipping. These parts can be replaced with parts from your original engine or bought from a local used auto parts store.
Section 9 – Returns, cancellations and deposits
Returns, refunds, restocking fees, cancellations and deposits are covered in our Return & Refund Policy and Cancellation Policy. Shipping, tax and payment terms are in our Shipping Policy and Payment Policy.
